Okay, clearly we have a bias when it comes to shopping at home with mobile showrooms: We’re big fans. Over two decades of driving to clients’ homes with thousands of flooring samples, we’ve found that the consumer benefits we expected when SMART Carpet and Flooring was founded—namely, personalized service and cost savings—are absolutely driving the mobile showroom revolution. But a third, less tangible, benefit has also emerged as homeowners have become busier and busier in today’s fast-paced society: Convenience.
There’s nothing convenient about loading up the kids and dragging them to the nearest big-box store that carries whatever you need--or about rushing to leave work on time and get to the local mom-and-pop showroom before it closes. Mobile showrooms, on the other hand, whether they’re carrying clothing or (in our case) flooring and décor samples, come to your house, on your time, and all you have to do is be there. It’s simple. It’s convenient. And there’s a lot to be said for simplicity and convenience in a world that’s anything but.

Any shopping experience that occurs with real products you can touch and see in the comfort of your own home is a winner from the get-go, and that’s why consumer demand is growing. Shopping online is certainly convenient, but if it’s the wrong color or doesn’t fit quite right, you have no way of knowing until after the product is delivered. And service can be hit-or-miss.
In-person shopping allows you to see and feel the items you’re buying before you hand over your hard-earned money, but it doesn’t always feel very personal . . . and there’s that convenience problem.
Mobile showrooms offer the best of both worlds. Think of the mobile showroom as a hybrid shopping experience. You get to shop whenever it works for you, but you also get to see how each product will work for you . . . and mobile showrooms, regardless of the industry, are typically staffed with experts who will help guide you through the shopping process and make sure you end up with the product that’s right for you.

When you’re shopping at a retail location, the prices have to help cover the store’s overhead, and one big chunk of overhead is the rent or mortgage on the sales floor in whatever form that may take, from a retail location to a manufacturer’s gleaming showroom. Mobile showrooms, by comparison, create a leaner organization. The truck or van is the sales floor, so there’s no need for additional bricks-and-mortar sales space outside of the warehouse. By turning your home into the sales floor, a mobile showroom is able to drastically cut costs and pass that cost savings on to you.
